EPP Ltd - New Service!!! Metabolite Hunting and Screening

EPP Ltd can now offer a metabolite hunting and identification service to support pharmaceutical metabolic fate studies. This service has been facilitated by EPP Ltd’s purchase of a new LCQ Deca XP system.

The LCQ Deca XP is 10 times more sensitive than the LCQ Deca (also currently in use at EPP) and able to perform multiple stages of mass spectrometry. Up to 10 stages (MS^10) can be performed using an ion trap, greatly increasing the amount of structural information obtainable for a given molecule. This is particularly relevant for detecting metabolites in biological media obtained from fate studies. Additionally, the inclusion of an orthogonal ion source prevents matrix contamination, a common problem when analysing biological samples.

Although not GLP compliant at the moment, the new system will be under going compliance testing in Feb/Mar and will be ready to undertake GLP compliant screening for metabolites of non-radio-labeled compounds after this time. Until then, screening can still take place but not to GLP.

The applications of this instrument are not only limited to metabolite screening, as the LCQ Deca XP will also be employed for the screening of process impurities in our GLP 5 batch analysis service. The LCQ Deca XP’s added sensitivity will aid in the detection of difficult to ionise impurities frequently found in batches of agrochemical actives.

The addition of the LCQ Deca XP to EPP Ltd’s current LCMS capabilities is supported by a team of dedicated analytical chemists who have significant experience in the field of metabolite and impurity detection.
