Job Specification Analytical Chemist – GLP

GLP compliant analytical studies carried out on a diverse range of active ingredients and derived formulated products in support of our clients’ business aims in the agrochemical, veterinary and human pharmaceutical, and industrial fine chemical markets in the UK, continental Europe and elsewhere (e.g., US, Canada, China, India, Brazil).

Your work will involve GLP compliant analysis of technical grade active ingredients (5-Batch Analysis studies) and derived formulated products (including storage stability studies) to determine active ingredient content, specified impurity levels, solvent and water content, inorganic content etc.) using standard analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, IC, KF, IR and UV.

In addition, EPP conduct GLP compliant physico-chemical testing studies such as water solubility, partition coefficient, melting point, etc. and any experience in this field would be beneficial.

EPP’s laboratories are well equipped with a full range of equipment and instrumentation for the conduct of GLP compliant analytical work. For example, our GLP suite of instrumentation includes a benchtop 60 MHz NMR spectrometer, several Thermo LC-MS and GC-MS systems, numerous Agilent HPLCs equipped with DAD detectors, Thermo IC equipped with conductivity detector, Agilent GC with FID detector, and modern Shimadzu FT-IR and UV spectrometers / spectrophotometers.

Location: EPP Environmental Centre on Bush Estate within Midlothian Science Zone.

Skills / experience required or desirable:

  • In-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical analytical chemistry such as a basic wet chemistry analytical techniques (e.g. titration, density measurement, pH, water content by Karl-Fisher) and more advanced chromatographic / spectroscopic techniques (e.g. HPLC, GC, IC, KF, IR, UV, LC-MS and GC-MS), specifically concerning the interpretation and reporting of data from such techniques, is desirable but full training will be given.
  • A good level of problem-solving skills and ability to complete work within tight client delivery deadlines is desirable.
  • A high level of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, and organizational and time management skills is desirable.
  • The ability to assess risk in a laboratory setting, operate in a practical and safe manner in order to achieve experimental output in accord with commercial reality is desirable.
  • The ability to work efficiently and effectively independently, or as part of a small team (such as within the culture of our company), without deviation from agreed SOPs is desirable.
  • Relevant analytical experience, including management of other laboratory personnel, in a CRO or a small industrial R&D setting is desirable.
