Vacancy: Analytical Chemist – GLP

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a talented individual to be an integral part of our quality Analytical team supporting our business operations. This full-time Analytical Chemist – GLP position is intellectually challenging, technical demanding, and requires creativity and team working to enable the business to meet a changing GLP regulatory and business environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the conduct of GLP physico-chemical characterization and 5-Batch analysis studies involving pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, veterinary products or other chemicals; designing, controlling and reporting these studies. You will be located at EPP’s highly attractive Environmental Centre site on the Bush Estate within Midlothian Science Zone.
Good time management is needed as aspects of the role involve assisting management, Study Directors, and other staff with the development of company-wide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated standard forms. Other key tasks to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory will include maintenance, qualification and calibration of analytical equipment, checking of analytical data, house-keeping and the maintenance of adequate stocks of reagents and other laboratory consumables.
Supporting activities to maintain a culture of team working, personal development and continuous improvement will also be integral to the role.
The primary responsibilities include the following activities:
Act as the principal analyst on GLP studies, where assigned, and must ensure that all raw data generated is fully documented and recorded in a prompt, accurate, legible, and permanent manner.
Solely responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of work and will be required to assist his/her supervisor in planning and reporting work allocated.
Ensure that study plans, SOPs and methods of analysis are followed in accordance with the principles of GLP.
Responsible for the timely communication of study data and reports to the Study Director including reporting immediately any deviations to the study plan, SOPs or methods of analysis.
Act as the responsible person, as defined by SOPs, maintaining the function, qualification and supporting records for assigned equipment.
Skills / Experience required:
A degree (or equivalent) in chemistry. Preferably an honours degree (or equivalent) in chemistry with a bias towards analytical chemistry, or a higher degree in analytical chemistry.
Ideally the candidate should have gained practical experience in the use of a wide range of analytical techniques which are typically employed in the testing of pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and veterinary products; these should ideally include liquid and gas chromatography, spectroscopy (NMR/MS/UV/FTIR), titration as well as other generic laboratory techniques such as density measurement, pH, water content by Karl-Fisher, viscosity etc.
Preferably several years’ industrial experience working within an analytical testing laboratory.
The candidate requires good technical, communication and administrative skills to produce good quality documents, accurate records and to present data.
Experience in working within a team to plan and conduct work and solve problems is essential.
